Re fefitting engine
Did I read someone saying,that the engine and gearbox can be refitted ,with the propshaft still in the car.I took it out this way ,but wondered if the reverse was possible Len

I'd have thought that it was nigh on impossible to line the yoke up withe the gearbox unless you have a couple of helpers. It's only 4 bolts, just take the shaft out and refit it afterwards.

Hi Len,
Logically the gearboxes final position should meet with the prop-shaft and is dictated by the position of the gearbox mounts, so you should be able to replace your engine / gearbox with it still in place.
You will need your rear wheels off the ground though (on axle stands preferably), so you can rotate the prop to match up the splines to the gearbox, the two should then slide together.
My only other thought is that this might prove a bit long winded on your own, so it would pay to 'phone a friend' to act as assistant for the day.

Look I`m sorry about the spelling ,it took my wife 2 years to get me to say manure instead if ********.I have decided it is easier to remove the propshaft I havn`t got any friends Len

Mark the prop shaft flanges , so that you can put it back in the right orientation when you bolt up later.

I have removed the prop,is it any advantage to have either the front or the rear of the car raised,when refitting the engine

Both front and rear raised is an advantage especially when you have to get underneath to fit the gearbox cross member and propshaft etc.

I usually leave the gearbox cross-member in place, I haven't had any issues (yet).
Now I am using a Moggy box again there is even more room under there...........
