If you have a suitable tap that is just a bit more than an interference fit, screw it into the remains of the bearing until it bottoms on the rear of the crankshaft and continue tightening the tap and you may be able to screw the remains of the bearing race out.

Problem solved Phil. Found (to my total amazement) an ex Cowley apprentice who has a restoration business in our (large) Village. He has lots of old factory tools, and whipped the offending bearing outer out in minutes.
Then spent the rest of the morning reminiscing and proudly showing me pics of his efforts. All for a fiver on the spot!
