Re: 1098cc gearbox remote
I wondered about doing it the other way round actually.faversham999 wrote:can I fit a 1098cc Gearbox remote on a 1275cc midget gearbox
Mainly because I hoped I might reduce the distance moved during a change,
I reckon they are the same though

Re: 1098cc gearbox remote
Have you definitely got the 1098 gear lever? The 948 is slightly shorter below the ball and gives a lot of movement in a 1098 remote housing.reduce the distance moved during a change
Also worth replacing the 'O' ring on the bottom of the lever.

Re: 1098cc gearbox remote
Just take a saw to the lever for 'shorter' movement - but all you will do is ruin the syncro if you are thinking 'faster' gear changes......

Re: 1098cc gearbox remote
Are they supposed to be synchro boxes thenbmcecosse wrote:Just take a saw to the lever for 'shorter' movement - but all you will do is ruin the syncro if you are thinking 'faster' gear changes......

By the way, how's your blackberry today?

I haven't a clue which lever's in there.IslipMinor wrote:Have you definitely got the 1098 gear lever? The 948 is slightly shorter below the ball and gives a lot of movement in a 1098 remote housing.reduce the distance moved during a change

Would you know the length of either bottom end please?
Would you know if there's room to extend the bottom end of the lever that's in there please?
Thanks for the heads up on the O-ring

[quote="panky"]This thread shows the differences in gear sticks
Thanks
Smashing
So, the bottom end on the early one is shorter than the ball length from top to bottom.
While the bottom end on the late one is about the same length as the ball.
Just washed me hands too
Thanks again
.

Thanks

Roy,Just take a saw to the lever for 'shorter' movement
I presume you are talking about the general movement of the gear lever, not the dimensions of the correct lever to be used in the 948 and 1098/1275 boxes?

I am very interested in learning about the correct dimensions of the 948, and 1098/1275 boxes RichardIslipMinor wrote:Roy,Just take a saw to the lever for 'shorter' movement

At the moment I'm trying to sort a gear change that feels like stirring pudden.
