I wondered about doing it the other way round actually.
Mainly because I hoped I might reduce the distance moved during a change,
I reckon they are the same though :-(

Have you definitely got the 1098 gear lever? The 948 is slightly shorter below the ball and gives a lot of movement in a 1098 remote housing.

Also worth replacing the 'O' ring on the bottom of the lever.

Just take a saw to the lever for 'shorter' movement - but all you will do is ruin the syncro if you are thinking 'faster' gear changes......

Are they supposed to be synchro boxes then :-)

By the way, how's your blackberry today?

I haven't a clue which lever's in there.
Would you know the length of either bottom end please?

Would you know if there's room to extend the bottom end of the lever that's in there please?

Thanks for the heads up on the O-ring :-)

Thanks :-) Smashing :-)
So, the bottom end on the early one is shorter than the ball length from top to bottom.
While the bottom end on the late one is about the same length as the ball.

Just washed me hands too :-(

Thanks again :-)

Roy,

I presume you are talking about the general movement of the gear lever, not the dimensions of the correct lever to be used in the 948 and 1098/1275 boxes?

I am very interested in learning about the correct dimensions of the 948, and 1098/1275 boxes Richard :-)
At the moment I'm trying to sort a gear change that feels like stirring pudden. :-(
