Re: Minor adoration
It all sounds very fishy to me. Why on earth would the engine be stripped down.... And various other anomalies in other reports. Caveat emptor....

Re: Minor adoration
This Auction was flagged up on here some time ago, I followed the link and got the catalogue but was put off by the astronomical Auctioneers fees that were applied.
Anyone know what the "hammer " price was?

Re: Minor adoration
Theirs no way I would pay £17k for a Brown 2dr, regardless of mileage.
Infact, the only Minors I would pay more than £10k for would be a mint million, a 1949 MM or a Mickey Mouse GPO Van.

Re: Minor adoration
Quite, and don't forget that by the time the auction houses fees are applied it will be way over £20000.

From the independent inspection report in April 2000 " when valeted (the car) would be of showroom standard".
Looking at the photos - the car is in superb condition and it is a four door model not two as reported above.
But as they say in the trade you pays your money and takes your chance

Re: Minor adoration
However and whatever causes it to deviates from showroom standard someone thinks that the car is worth paying the auction total price for.
At least those switches can be removed and the interior returned to true showroom standard.
When I worked in the garage trade I used to look after what was then a fairly new Rover 3.0 P5 Coupe and the dash was covered in extra gauges and switches, it even had an altimeter and an illuminated 'PLEASE PASS sign in the rear window.
You may have guessed it was owned by a retired senior engineer who also liked to 'tinker' but he never got to stripping the engine thankfully.

Re: Minor adoration
I think if someone pays that amount for a Minor - it won't be too long before they pitch up on here - surely ?

Re: Minor adoration
Yeah, but if there are drilled holes it ceases to be "Showroom Standard".
Depends on the interpretation I suppose....(groan)

Yes
GROAN and another GROAN.
As an aside there are plenty of holes on the underside of the dash so as not to have to drill any holes when fitting an additional switch panel.
And another GROAN

Re: Minor adoration
Now that is show room finish
When I worked in the BMC garage we were always having to finish the pre-pre-delivery inspection and rectification.
Nothing ever seemed to be right direct from the factory. Happy days.
No wonder BMC and later BL went under
