Flywheels and cranks

It all works fine so with a little flywheel machining it is perfectly possible to pop a 2" main bearing Spridget engine into a 950 Minor. So should you ever find yourself with a late 1098 Spridget engine and nothing under your Minors bonnet fear not...

Yep. It's going to used by a local spinster for shopping and taking the dog on little outings.

The engine seems happy enough on the little carb at the speeds she drives at so why fit anything bigger? Now if it were my car things would be very different but I was just getting it back on the road for a friend.

And does it have the 295 head fitted? When that head is fitted to a Spridget engine - are the pistons flat top - or 'raised D' to maintain the comp ratio ?

It's got the (iirc) 202 or 206 it came with. Can't comment on the pistons fitted as I've left it together. As I said it seems happy enough and purrs along.

While chatting about Flywheel fitting , does anyone know the exact sizes of the Marina/Ital and Sprite/Midget Flywheel flange/register ?
And would they be metric or imperial ?

I cannot give you the exact size but the 1275cc Marina/Ital and 1275cc MG Midget/Sprite crankshaft flywheel mounts are completely different. The Marina/Ital crankshaft has 6 bolts and one dowel. The MG Midget/Sprite has 6 bolts and two dowels plus a register. The 948cc and 1098cc have the same flywheel PCD but he 10CC 1098cc engine has a different PCD.
Below is a photo of the rear end of a Marina/Ital 1275cc crankshaft.

Below is a photo of the rear end of a MG Midget.Sprite 1275cc crankshaft with raised register.
Please note that the central raised boss is a modification to allow the fitment of the Ford derived SC/CR Quaife gearbox.

The bolts are 3/8" UNF imperial.

I don't think it's about approve or not it's the fact they are a waste of time and money because they don't work. The Morris Minor Workshop won't fit them so they told me.

Unless you have the rear outer face of the flywheel mounting flange precision ground and/or have a speedy sleeve fitted to that outer face the type of seal kit in the link above will not work. The flange ex factory is not suitable for fitting a lip seal kit as the finish is too rough and will tear the seal to pieces in no time.
The seal kits also do not fit the 1275cc MG Midget/Sprite crankshaft as the spacer supplied as part of the kit lifts the flywheel off the register de-centralising the flywheel on the rear of the crankshaft leading to the flywheel coming loose.
Only the MED kit is suitable for the rear end of the 'A' Series but that does require some machining so is not a home mechanic task.
