So, a few days down the line and things are progressing well, chassis is finished all bar a couple of small details, brakes, steering, suspension, the lot all in, split pins and lock tabs all sorted, just a visit from the grease gun, strap the steering rack gaitors and fill the diff up with oil, bleed the brkes, that kind of thing to do. Wiring is all basically done (complete with 'old' bulbholders :-? ) cab is now completely bolted down, steering column is in, heater is in, washer system is in, all brake lines are done, handbrake is all sorted, although not adjusted, It was getting too heavy to leave on stands, so it's now on the deck on it's wheels, which are all fitted up with new tyres and tubes, doors wings, bonnet and front bumper are all painted, plus all the little bits, just the tailgate to do.

The wing is just hanging on two bolts in those pics as we ran out of table space.

I've been wound up more than a few times by repro parts though, it's starting to become a bit of a joke.
First off was the previously mentioned wiring loom, with bulbholders that won't take bulbs, then you realise that despite buying a complete harness, it doesn't come with the headlight looms. Next was a miss-machined trunnion pin, the first one that was sent as part of a trunnion kit was about 2mm too short shoulder to shoulder:

The replacement was the right size, but the thrust washers wouldn't fit as the shank below the threads wasn't turned down enough. Next was the fuel tank, it was only after rubbing it down, stoneguarding and painting that we removed the tape over the sender hole and shone a torch inside; Nice.

The newest one has been a tilt hook for the side panel, for some reason one was missing when the van was found, we had forgotten we needed one, and now of course we need one in a hurry, so again I ordered a repro. What a joke, formed out of a plain piece of straight stock, it's too narrow, by about 4mm, and looks nothing at all like the original being of rectangular cross section, whereas the original is arched in section. If it were wide enough I could spend some time chamfering the edges, but as it's so narrow it would still look wrong.
Why oh why bother making stuff that just isn't right?

Tomorrow should see the buck and cab back fitted for the last time, if some seals arrive, I boobed and ordered a van set as opposed to a pick up set, so am missing the T section to go over the cab roof, and don't have enough of the L section to go inside and outside of the buck. Oh well it will get there in the end.

A few things I need just in case anyone reading can help;
9x wheelnuts. We always had one missing, somehow we've lost another eight.
OS hockey stick moulding for the front grill.
A decent original type horn. Must be original type, must work, ours doesn't.
The aforementioned tilt hook for the side of the buck.
I think that's it.
Cheers for reading.

Shouldn't the rear shackle plates be painted silver?
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

I don't know, should they? It's the kind of info I've found very difficult to unearth.

I'm amazed at how fast you're going.

I've bought some screws and wheelnuts from ESM and they were good quality and just like the originals. (Whitworth heads, pozi heads on all the screws)

For the hockey stick you're right OS is much better than the repros and the horn I'm guessing shouldn't be too hard to find even a new one like the original.

There's a rubber that goes between the back floor and the sides which I have no idea how to put in place, if you find a way please let me know.

Keep up the great work!

So, today was another good day, after sorting out a few little jobs, we fitted the rear buck, followed by the cab back. Sounds simple when said like that, but in reality is a pain, messing around with seals, and getting all the bolts lined up, still, worth it in the end. Loosely hung the other front wing for space reasons as well. Plus of course numerous other little jobs, front bumpstops, fuel pump, progress at last. Monday I'll start on the doors.

Can anyone help with any info regarding the correct routing of the rear wiring loom on an LCV?
The 'tags' on the chassis become non existent after the tubular crossmember that supports the front of the leaf springs. Am I some tags missing?

I think so, I took some quick pictures of mine but didn't look more in detail. There's definitely a tag over the axle but I don't see any from there to the cab.[frame]Image[/frame]
Further rear, there are two more tabs and then p clips forward and aft of the tank.[frame]Image[/frame]
Don't let yours get as dusty as mine, it's time to get them back on the road![frame]Image[/frame]
