I don't think site security and illegal entrance have anything to do with the thefts. Anyone could come and pay £15 and legitimately look round. Donnington was an exception as it was visible and accessable from the main road so anyone could have seen the campsite and walked round on the Sat eve. But the big stately homes which are so often used are normally out of sight and relatively private venues. I hate to say it but I suspect it may well have been club member(s). I know of a couple of 'likely candidates' but don't think either were there that weekend. As I said before - take a cross section of 2000 people and there will probably be one or two inclined to steal and sadly I suspect the Minor world is no different.
As for site security, there was none at all if you arrived very early or very late! Thats not a critisism of the organisers by the way, just a statement. I wouldn't expect any marshals to be voluteering their time late into the evening or early morning - no one checked my pass at 7.50am....

Very few owners asked WHY I wanted to note their vehicles' chassis, body & engine numbers!

Vast majority of occations announced myself as POMMReg and was collecting details for my
other register,ie MINOReg.

Should really carry some id to prove who I am?

Bring back the stocks for the next national!
Excellent idea! If someone can make them I will ask all the traders to bring a good supply of rotten eggs with them next year. We could even charge for throwing the eggs and any money collected could go to the Help the Heroes fund to recompense them for their losses this year.
