Thefts at Cornbury Park
I was talking to one of the main parts suppliers during the week who had one of the big spares stands at Cornbury Park. I was staggered to learn that he had over £700 worth of parts stolen over the weekend and another of the big parts suppliers had at least two front wings and a performance exhaust system stolen from their stand.
To me theft, is one of the most cowardly crimes to commit, but this does raise bigger questions as I fear that these guys may stop supporting such events which will be a real shame.
Having seen first hand the amount of trade they had over the weekend, this would be a real shame for those genuine and honest people who look forward to seeing and buying their parts at such events.
Just wish I had seen it happening but I guess these pond life are far too experienced in taking what isn't theirs.

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
scum of the earth
they need naming and shaming if caught

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
I also heard that the club spares stand had some expensive items stolen too!
A bit of a worry, as I often leave my car un-locked at events, perhaps we all need to be more aware, what a shame!

My 1956 Series 11 Traveller! Bought when I was 17 (1985)....sold 6 years (1991) later......bought back 9 years after that! (2000) With 6 different owners in the middle, what a lucky boy I am!

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
I never leave my car unlocked although I do worry about leaving my bonnet up at events in case there are some light figured types about! Hence I always carry a few spare items just in case.
I really hope these cowards are not members of our club and I hope they get named and shamed as someone must know who is responsible.
I feel for the traders as its their livelihoods, they support our events and help us keep our cars on the road.

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
The owner of that particular stall told me of the thefts, it was during one of the heavy showers when everyone crowded into the trade tents to shelter from the rain

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
Thats disgusting and amazing. I can hardly believe someone would have the brass neck to stroll off with a pair of wings and an exhaust. Small chrome bits maybe, but you keep those on a table in good view. I left my stall a couple of times to use the loos and just let it look after itself. I'll not be doing that again.

cheers

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park

I always lock my car, force of habit from living in London.
There have been thefts from tents at nationals before now from people coming on site to steal.
This feels a lot worse, like someone you trust stealing from you.

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
Sod naming and shaming, anyone found stealing like this needs a life ban from all MMOC events. Once served s/he can be treated as a trespasser and ejected from the site
Twenty plus years ago I attended a National and bought some parts - really annoys me now that I can't remember what, or from who. I wrote out a cheque (remember them?!) and dug around in my wallet for a cheque guarantee card and the trader was affronted that I'd thought he'd want it. Times have changed, and not for the better

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
This is really awful, I had no idea there had been any thefts and so much taken too. Shameful and sadly a reminder for us all to be vigilant at every event.

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
Such a shame, it casts a shadow over the whole event.............
Does this now mean we need to have a Police presence at Classic Car shows / stop and question everyone walking away from a stall with parts.
You would have hoped these scum wouldn't have been attracted to our events.
Depressing.

Re: Thefts at Cornbury Park
The trouble is as you're wandering around with the odd spare wheel/new wiring loom/wing under your arm (which you've paid for) how are you to know whether the guy coming towards you with similar under his arm has paid for his? No one give a receipt for autojumble! It's very unfortunate but almost impossible to police.
