Looks entirely like a later car to me - and very coy about the 'non-transferrable' reg number... Seems to me it's a late car - hiding behind an earlier logbook - so yes - a ringer.
I've asked this question of the seller - " Can you please explain which parts of this car are from 1957??? It shows all the parts from a very late (1971/72) car - and none that I can see from a 1957 car? " Anyone want to bet if I will get an answer??

Steering lock & indicator stalk on the left?

Would someone e-mail the vendor requesting the body &
engine nos, should be interesting!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Just because a car has been re shelled it doesn't make it a ringer, however one should use as many of the 'original components' during the 're shell' - but just to argue a point, there is nothing to say that the car or any car similar had been legitimately re shelled and then later components added through time....

However, if one was to re shell a car correctly then both chassis numbers should be made visible. There isn't much point in checking the chassis numbers as I'm confident that it will match the log book and if the V5C says it's a 57 then so be it, unless the chassis number in the body is still visible?! If it is a ringer then that will have probably been covered over, ground out, cut out / re stamped. In reality though guys we are talking about a car that is 55 / 65 years old, it's hardly a £60k M6.

It would be of course interesting to find out how this has come about....

Either way its not quite right and could end up in tears :( If the car had had a legitimate reshell DVLA would of been informed at the time and this would show up

I can't see how it would end up in tears and I would bet my complete Minor collection that DVLA know about less than 1% of the cars on the road that have been re shelled. It's only the last fifteen or twenty years that they have organised themselves with cars that have 'officially been written off' and I would think that they only did that because of pressure from the insurance companies!

Agreed, but looking at the pictures how much of the car looks to date from 1957. It could be that a later car has been given a pre1960 identification to avoid the need for an MOT. In my book that makes for a ringer.

It is NEVER legal to reshell a car using another shell that has previously been registered. It is ONLY legal with a brand new shell. This Traveller shows all the features of a late Trav - and absolutely none of a 1957 Trav. The concern of course is that it may be a stolen car - now hiding behind an earlier log book. And yes - there would be tears from the previous owner if they lost their Trav to a thief!

Love the fact the seller has now said the car is advertised as being at an old address but is available from their new address. It just gets less and less suspicious

Whether it's a £50 wreck or a £60k Bentley, a 'ringer' is a
'ringer'!

well not quite true see herehttps://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/radical ... d-vehicles if its been reshelled with a secondhand one as long as they have complied with the above then it ok. but would have a q reg, maybe thats why there are no photos of the reg number, but yes could be a ringer. There is also a petition on classic cars site to have the law changed to allow this but keep the original number worth a read, just put reshelling a car in search and it pops up,lots of differing opinions on there.makes for interesting reading.

Leave well alone in my opinion. People are just asking for trouble buying that. Def a ringer.

Or Teddy Bass?

I authenticate Minors by their body number. FAR more reliable
than their chassis plate.
