I have a Morris minor 1000, I have taken the head off the engine and some of the water holes have been filled in. Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks

Re: Engine block
Welcome to the forum -perfectly normally -just poke away any loose crud. Why did you take the head off?

Re: Engine block
Hi thanks for reply, the cylinder head gasket has gone, the holes I'm referring too have been properly filled in with solid compound not crud so unable to just poke out

Re: Engine block
What would the reason for someone to do this? It doesn't effect performance etc?
Re: Engine block
Like that from new. Some v high power A series engines are 'dry decked' where ALL the water passages are plugged off and flow is made through the head only at the ends -through large bore pipes.

Many thanks for info Bmcecosse
Re: Engine block
Try to use a 'copper' faced gasket - faces all spotlessly clean - wipe the faces over with thin film of gease - torque the head to 44 ft lbf in stages and set the valve gaps 12 thou inlet and 15 thou exhaust. Retorque (and re gap) after the first heat cycle. Oh - and fit a new 'solid wall' bypass hose while the head is off......
