National Rally - Dog?

Post by Audrey1955 »

Just heard that no dogs are allowed at the national rally in Oxford?

Really, and why is this? It looks as though I might have to give the rally a miss now, for this absurb reason!

My Lincoln is only a border terrier, and a very well behaved one as well. He came with me to all the rallies last year, so want to know why they arent allowed at the nation rally this year.

Thanks

Dogs are allowed on the camp site but unfortunately not on the rally field as it forms part of a deer park. Deer can feel threatened by dogs over a long distance, even if the dog is well behaved, and particularly during the birthing season which is when the rally is being held. Hopefully dog owners will appreciate the reasons why Cornbury Park have asked that dogs are kept off the rally field.

Right, just seems a pity that the rally was organised there, as I know of quite a few people up here that arnt going to be able to go, because they cant bring there dogs :(

I would imagine blind dogs would be allowed on, so whats the difference? The deers cant tell if its a working dog etc.
I would also imagine engine noise would scare the deer? seems like the organisers/cornbury park, arent really suitable for car rallies.

I also noticed the no dogs sign at the bottom of the page, having spent ages looking for dog friendly b&bs. I certainly would not leave my dog on the campsite all day especially as I don't intend camping.

Yeah, im pretty annoyed to be honest, as my dog came with me to all the rallies last year, no problem. As for the deers being frightened, what utter rubbish. For starters, im sure legally blind assistant dogs will be allowed on site, so whats the difference?

As for the engine noise, sound of horns etc, I really dont see how this venue is suitable.

Ive noticed the VW rallies dont have this problem you see, as their venues are in much more relaxed atmospheres, not some poncy mansion gardens, worried about the deer; and they want to host a car rally?

Anyway, as i said, quite a few people i know cant go now

Hi,
Haven't you got some friends that could look after him for a couple of days?
Shame if people can't go because of this, as I suspect this will be the biggest rally for some years to come.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Seems an extreme reason to give the rally a miss.

If you like VW rallies better then why not get one of those aswell. It takes a lot of time and effort to organise an event such as this and your criticism is pretty harsh.

hahahaha, seems a bit extreme? how else do you think my dog's going to eat? He's not going to feed itself! Or let him outside to go toilet. You obviously dont have a dog I see.

As for the event itself, well, what can I say. Staid and outdated like last year, with no real imagination used at all. Obviosuly organised by the older members of the club. 'takes a long time to organise'm really? its the same old same old as last year. Nothing special for the centenery.

What critisism exactly? Many people I know cant go now, because of the dog ban, and it is something that should have been taken into consideration. I wouldnt expect people to leave their children at home alone, and yes, before you ask, my dog is as important as any other human being.

Oh, just to add, my friend has a vw beetle, and yes, their events are much more fun. I love my morris too much to give it up, but part of me wishes I got a VW because of the club. But I dont have time for another classic, and I love the Morris too much.

While I am no dog lover - I don't see the problem... Apparently we need to kill 50% of the deer population anyway - so why are we worrying about these ones??

As dw wrote,I can't think of any circumstances in which I would leave my dog with other folk either, fortunately someone will be at home during the rally. However I wonder if the main reason for the ban is to do with some people not clearing up after their dog. Another case of the few spoiling it for the rest. Maybe if there are two family members going to the rally together they could take turns to go to the rally field, with one staying on the campsite with the dog. That way at least they could attend.

It's possible.
Not every dog owner actually cares about others. I'm sorry to say where I live there's quite often mess in the back alleys.
In the parks they seem to be more responsible but I wonder if they simply feel they're more likely to be caught / reported and prosecuted for fouling there?
I'm sorry but if that is a reason then I agree with it, dog mess is extremely unpleasant, dangerous in certain instances where children are concerned and (in my view) all dog owners should clear up after their pets or not be allowed to own one in the first place.
I'll get off my soap box now.

That is a bit harsh. The committee put alot of effort into organising these events for us. Planning for this event started pretty much immediately after the last National rally and this is going to be a big event. There are a number of other Morris clubs involved in the planning of the centenary event too so just imagine the hassle involved in getting all of them together to plan the event let alone agreeing on the location/activities etc. The number of suitable venues will be limited as it needs to accomodate a large amount of vehicles/visitors. You can't please all of the people all of the time - it has to suit the majority and it's inevitable that some people will be unhappy

If you feel the VW events are much more fun then, rather than whining on here, why not drop an email to the rally organisers with some ideas. I'm sure they'd welcome some fresh input and I daresay that they'd value any help you were able to offer. I think your comment saying it's staid and outdated with no real imagination used is downright rude and insulting to those that work so hard to put these events on

Without the help of Footman James who run our MMOC Young Member's Insurance most of our younger members wouldn't be able to get insurance and would have to sell their Minors. Without the new young blood the Club would not have a future. I believe no other insurance Broker is willing to do this.

I didn't choose Footman this year but I'm glad they are their to keep the market competitive and to support the youngsters ,whom the club needs to carry on in the future

And help to push us old ones off muddy fields :D
