Arc welders are going on ebay for around 50.00. Not sure about migs

Why not Schultz, it's what my welder friend recommended, he said it was very good, I'm worried now :(

MIGs are going for about £250 thats the problem :D

Is Arc welding better in any way?

Arc welding is not so clever for thin gauge metal and if you've not welded much before is pretty tricky. You may find £250 small fry compared to the final quote you get, there's a lot of work there!

It has no rust-proofing properties whatsover, it's essentially some tarry/plastic-like stuff they spray on and then hardens.

It lasts for a year or two and the rust breaks out all over again. Leave it bare steel and have the satisfaction of doing a proper lasting job yourself.
