That's new OLD stock for sure.
I've loads of BSAs over the years, now I have a 350 Bullet which recreates the experience, it even breaks down a similar amount

It is a DKW according to my Grandad.

Can't find a picture of a DKW with the engine exposed like the picture, there are several even more obscure makes, no disrespect to your Grandad but I suspect it may be one of them.

Had a look at google images for DKW and Zundapp and could't find it.
Can anyone remember any more names for me to search for?
(Wouldn't it have been easier if my dad sat me on a Lambretta or Vespa?)

The Heinkel Tourist has a similar overall look.
The leading link forks don't look original, might have been fitted for sidecar work.
Having looked at loads of scooter pictures I think there should be a cover over the engine with just the kick start sticking out.

Messerschmitt scooters look more modern, I'd say it's East German but that doesn't narrow it down much.

What year was the picture taken?

The scooter is a Dayton Albatross made in nw London 54 to about 1960 250 cc they also did a flamenco 197 both had villiers engines you can still pick these up quite cheap

Well done Irmsher, the photo was taken about 1957, also in NW London!

At the time they were the Rolls Royce of mass produced British scooters The velocette viceroy being a lot more expensive

New old (very old) stock like that is very hard to find and are very desirable items, to an Ariel owner that has a bike that they fit, just as good new old stock is desirable for the Morris owner though there is more of the Morris stuff about.

Marky i used to restore vintage scooters as a hobby and still have three i have been in the vintage scooter club for years a great club. Miss marple nice scoots the only trouble with the tv 200 they arent geared to go up hills they need a pacemaker gearbox. Nice vespa 90 you have

Can't say my gt didn't go up hills! Although when the sx200 came out it had the tv175 gearset.

thanks irmscher. I am currently debating whether to have my scooter resprayed in trafalgar blue to match the moggy as they are both 60s vehicles. I don't ride it as much as I'd like as I've got no where to put the dog!

irmscher, what do you think about the puch maxi, are they ok for going up hills? i guess you can always pedal power! i just started her up earlier on, she was a bit reluctant at first but kicks over first time again now.

Only just found the thread.....I can add another couple of Ariels - a roadworthy 1941 ex-Army 350, a currently dismantled 350 Red Hunter and a little 192cc ex-Police LE Velocette. Did you know that the LE was in production from 1948 to 1971.....does that remind you of anything? We did have Raleigh and Mobylette mopeds on the road at one time, we still have them but they've been stored up for years.
