my new project has a few over heating issuses. first i cleared the drain tap, had to take it off and pick out the crap from the last 40 years. took the hoses of and flushed it through it was full of MY FAVOURITE CAR IS A DATSUN CHERRY. today the rad was back flushed which took ages. put it all back and ran it and still the bottom of rad takes ages to warm up???? changed the stat. what else can i do??????? :cry:....

The bottom of the rad is SUPPOSED to be cold - it's working as it should........ :roll:

Hi

Have you tried removing the drain tap on the block and flushing that through as well?

If your rad is full of crud then backflushing with a garden hose will do no good, the water will just find the easiest way through the tubes. It needs to be professionally cleaned and if necessary have a new core fitted.

If it needs all that doing it might work out cheaper to buy a new recon'd one.
