Hi
Have you tried removing the drain tap on the block and flushing that through as well?

Re: radiator
If your rad is full of crud then backflushing with a garden hose will do no good, the water will just find the easiest way through the tubes. It needs to be professionally cleaned and if necessary have a new core fitted.

Re: radiator
If it needs all that doing it might work out cheaper to buy a new recon'd one.
