Daisy May- 61 2dr

Post by DaisyMayFozz »

Not really a resto project, more of a place where i can update news and maintenence of Daisy May, our 1961 2dr saloon.

About her:
we bought her in 2009 of ebay, unseen for £900. drove down to kings lynn to pick her up, to find that she had a flat battery. luckily the previous owner had a charger so we charged it up and away we went! she drove the 120 odd mile with no problems back to east yorkshire.

Pics of here when we got her(from the ebay listing)[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

when she got home:[frame]Image[/frame]

solid underneath, and with 11months MOT and tax, she was a bargain. she needed tidying up on the exterior, but this wasn't a problem. Named daisy may, because she is white, and we got her in may!

after some paint, washing , polishing, new parts she now looks like this:[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

The list of things that we have done is massive, but some are:
new wiring loom
new steering wheel
painted doors, 2 out of 4 wings, boot, gutters, wheels, inside boot
added decals and cleaned up engine bay
new number plates
new sun visors
New drums and shoes at rear
fixed interior light
sprayed air filter
new battery
door catches
and some more......

we found out when we got her that all the leads where in the wrong positions and the timing was miles out.
every ten minute job is about an hour, because ours doesn't have that part or has a different one, or the correct spanner doesn't fit.......

she enjoyed going to the national at harewood house:[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
and came loaded with parts from the traders..
she is also looking forward to the national at knebworth this year!

so that is Daisy Mays story so far, but it has defiantly not ended.

Ps, any old owners of her that see this, could you please PM me of any old info or files or stuff like that? you can see the reg in the pics

Cheers
Chris

Looks tidy!
every ten minute job is about an hour"
That's have long 10 minute jobs always take :) 5 minute ones can be even worse!

Fitted some mirrors today: got them out of minor matters: only got two photos before battery went flat, but will eventually take one with the whole car in the shot.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Also recently fitted another fan ( so it has four blades, not the standard two) a bit of a fiddle, but all done in the end. I am only doing this as she tends to suffer overheating on long runs.

okay, been doing some work recently, rebuilding the seats and removing some surface rust from the floor.

Only got the passenger side images to hand at the moment, but will post some others up later.

And after:

needs some minor fettling to make it perfect, but im happy, much much better than the start

oh and here are the things that fell out of the seats when being stripped down:

Image

some 1 and 2p's, a pound coin 2 shillings and a door pin (that coincidently is missing from the drivers side door!)

I will post up some pictures of the floor and the drivers side later

cheers chris

Here are some pics of the floor progress, from start to finish.

surface rust on floor ( pictures make it look worse than it actually was) removed with A wire brush attachment on my drill, had 2 coats of krust and a coat of the proper red lead. carpets cleaned and gear stick resprayed.

Who tightened up the gear lever gaiter ring?
Everything doesn't have to be as tight as humanly possible, damage can can result. Trivial in this case but less so with wheel studs etc.

Well done for taking preventative action on the rust you are finding.
Rust never sleeps you know.

it was already bent like that when I bought the car, I have only tightened lightly ( so that it doesn't move) I do need a new gaiter, and if I find a decent ring at the auto jumbles I may swap it.

thanks, the under side is the next on my list, as well as the sills,.

also the handbrake needs re-painting.
