I doubt there are any FWD cars using gears in the sump anymore. The gearbox normally fits end-on, in a similar fashion to a RWD car. Obviously a suitable bellhousing, etc. would be needed.

I believe that engine IS the way forward for an economic (but probably not fast) diesel Minor, and it can run on vegetable oil at £3.13 for 3 litres.... Shouldn't be too difficult to match it up to a suitable RWD gearbox. Since diesels are low revving beasts - a 5 speed box would be best - but not essential if a 3.7 final drive is fitted.
