clutch + brake shaft
Operating the clutch creates some movement in the brake pedal and vice-versa. I thought I would lube the clutch/brake pedal shaft. Is this hidden in the chassis leg or do I access it from under the car?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Yes and probably the gearbox tunnel cover too. I agree with Cam that lubrication isn't likely to help - you will need to inspect the shaft and bearings to find out which bit/s need fixing. It's up with the carpets then.
On the last one I did the bearings were fine but the shaft was heavily worn (fixed by welding the original shaft up and grinding it round)
It had got so bad that engine braking was difficult as the clutch would stay open until I took my foot off the brakes.
