Hi there. anyone have any clues why my petrol gauge just reeds full?

Take the wires off the sender, if it still reads full you have an earthing problem in the wiring. If not then it is probably the sender itself.

Thnakyou for that! ill give that a go. if its an earth problem do you no wereabouts they earth?

Probably where it goes through a hole in the bodywork and the grommet has perished. I think it runs under the floor next to the chassis rail and passes the clutch mechanism, that is a possible area where the loom has come loose and has been rubbed.
