Question!
Hi!
Can anyone tell me something about this chassis nr: M/AW5 1048948
And engine nr: 8G162 AD ES 75528
Can anyone tell me something about this chassis nr: M/AW5 1048948

Re: Question!
The chassis number relates to a late 1963 traveller. The engine code 8G relates to a factory reconditioned A-series engine. The other numbers/letters refer to the job number.

Re: Question!
But is it a 1098 or a 948 engine??
Re: Question!
No idea! Engine code 8G could be 803, 848, 948, 1098 or 1275cc. Is there a number anywhere on the engine block?

Re: Question!
All blocks (not sure about the 803) should have the engine size cast into the side of the block; 950 is 948cc, 1100 is 1098cc.

Re: Question!
Measure the diameter of the bore :-
803cc = 58mm
948cc = 62.94mm
1098cc = 64.58mm
Rog

Re: Question!
Do it the easy way, look at the block behind the exhaust manifold. 948 will have 950 cast on the block, 1098 will have a plate with 1100 on it.

That's pretty much what I said!!!mike.perry wrote:Do it the easy way, look at the block behind the exhaust manifold. 948 will have 950 cast on the block, 1098 will have a plate with 1100 on it.

Re: Question!
Well I did suggest that Kim checked the block but he says there are no other numbers on it!

Re: Question!
Ok then...
Remove the rocker cover and check the casting number of the cylinder head. A standard 1098 one is 12G202 and a 948 one is something like 2A269
However this is not a definitive method of testing as bits can be swapped over...
