knocking from nearside front suspension

Post by 59249 »

heavy clatter from nearside front suspension on rough road. new damper, top bushes and tie bar fitted. steering rack removed inspected and replaced. Trunnion inspected when damper was changed. Any ideas please. Could it be service exchange damper faulty?

Could it be service exchange damper faulty?
Yes, but clatter is not usually a damper (unless it is loose) so it could be other things too.
Were there any noise before damper was replaced?
What condition are the eyebolt bushes?
Does it have an anti roll bar?

You don't mention having done anything to the bottom trunnion - is it o.k?
Did you check that the damper contained oil before fitting? Did you place damper upright in a vise or similar and move the lever arm through it's travel a few times to expel any air that may have been present?

Have you checked that the eye-bolt is tight where it passes through the chassis leg????

Are all the torsion bar fixings tight???

Worn splines on the torsion bar and the lower cast arm?
