vibration over 40mph..

Post by ampwhu »

i'm currently running an 803 box and i've been troubled lately. if i drive over 40mph, i get rumbling noise and lots of vibration from around my drivers seat area...... under the car. i'm guessing it's the gearbox rubbers.. it's not confirmed, but i can't see what else it is. i recently replaced the engine mounts and never had the problem beforehand. i've checked the mounts and they are fitted tightly and correct. the old mounts must have taken some vibrations up and now the engine is stiffer, the vibrations have moved backwards at a guess.

on the 803 box, there is a D shaped rubber mounting at the rear, i'm told. if this is my problem, is it an easy change? meaning can i remove the prop and change the rubber with the gearbox in the car? are there any other gearbox mounts and does anyone have a picture as i can't find one.

is it possible that the prop is out of balance?

i've ruled out the wheels as the steering is fine at speed and slowly.

i'm at my wits end now

Maybe the prop is worn ? joints loose ? I thought all the boxes had the same mount system - bit I could be wrong!

looking at the gearbox section on ESM's website, they state that there is a large mount for the 803 box, i can't see where that would connect on a 948 as the rear of the boxes differ.

Especially if you have a nice young lady in the passenger seat! If it's a man.... I have to tell them to move their knees to the left first.

I had a vibration which I felt sure was prop related so I refurbished a spare prop and fitted it and was most disappointed when I still had the vibration. Someone on here then suggested it may be the nut on the diff flange had worked loose (he had a similar problem) but mine was OK. However, when looking at the diff flange I noticed it was running out of true. Looked as if the car had been jacked up on it at some point! I changed the diff and all is well now....
