It's a forum - no harm in some chat around the subject - surely ? The 'braking' discussion comes directly from the need or otherwise of having a restraining cable !
Yes please PSL -I would like a copy of that RT if possible ??

Not wanting to upset anyone, but what do other manufacturers (eg Ford in the original use of the type 9) do to avoid this problem? If it is in lateral support via the crossmember mount, then can this not be superimposed onto the Moggy when using that box? Or, looking at another recent post, remove the fan and stick an electric one on the front. 2 birds one stone!

I haven't got the book to hand, but the figure was very similar for the 1098cc cars - I was surprised when I saw it.

AFAIK, all the conversion cross members use the Ford G'box mount. I'm just not happy about the fan/rad clearance - mind you, I'm using a 1275 with original fan

I'm sure the 'limit' for hard stops is the grip of the tyres on the road. So as long as the drum (of any size) can lock the wheel - that's it! Used to be a theory that 1G stop was the maximium possible - but I think modern tyres have proved that to be wrong!

As I'm not an expert on scanning and making PDF's and such like I've just scanned JPG's and posted them up here....

I dont think theres really any need for the cable with the type 9 mount Matt has shown as its a lot stiffer than the standard setup. Ive also been running with a type 9 for years & the fan (when it was fitted) never touched the rad

I've just installed a type 9 and done away with the clutch linkage in favour of a single cranked rod running directly from the pedal.when pressing the clutch pedal the engine/gearbox do not move (tested with a dial gauge).
This surely illustrates the gearbox mountings ability to prevent forward/backward motion.I would also suggest that engine mounts be in as new condition.
The clutch action is much improved by the way :D

JEFF,
IF IT IS OF ANY HELP I HAVE FITTED A TYPE 9 CONVERTION TO MY 4DOOR, RUNNING 1275 MARIA ENGINE ABOUT 3YEARS AGO. AND FITTED THE CONVERTION CROSS MEMBER WITH THE STANDARD TYPE 9 FORD GEARBOX RUBBER V MOUNT. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE HAD TO HIT THE BRAKE ( DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY G !!) AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS. THE CONVERTION CROSSMEMBER CAME FROM BIRMINGHAM MINOR CENTRE
