Thank you Jonathon, you have answered by question! ;-)

As he said, all buyers will now have to bid in the auction. I guess its called keeping your options open. If I was the seller and had my fingers burnt before I would do the same thing, keep the auction open till I got my money.

Sounds like its a very early car if 1948 and deserves restoring, whoever gets it. Just glad to see one saved rather than crushed.

Well, you know what they say about a 'bird in the hand'.
He may well end up with less than Jonathon offered - and it would be just desserts.
There is really little integrity out there now - had experience of several similar situations recently, both as buyer and seller.
As my late mother in law used to say - 'what's meant for you, won't go past you' - never a truer word.
Something else will turn up Jonathon.

Pete

There is still 3 days 2 hours to go. No need to lose a car over a misunderstanding! ;-)

  It's going to be split second timing then

Other than replacing the engine with the original (if possible) repairing only what is absolutely necessary, and gaining an MOT, I would be preseving it in its full original glory :D

2117 is listed as January 49 and 3871 is March 49 so must be nearer March.

I contacted the last couple of owners of my lowlight and one of them said he has a complete sidevalve engine gearbox and radiator that he had heard running before it was taken out. He lives around Southhampton area.

I think Bill aimed the comment at me CJ and I will certainly heed his advice. I caught a whole load of flack from some on here when I purchased the splitty van. It would seem that some here view an enthusiast who is a trader differently to just an enthusiast.
In my book if I make an agreement with someone I honor it. He was happy to accept my money and stop the auction when it was received. As a result of the involvement of an MMOC committee member this deal was called off. Just how clear does this need to be made CJ.and why do you seem to doubt what I say.
Anyway the car is no longer an issue as its now over my budget. So for me no need to discuss this any further.

Somebody has offered to buy it for £2000, and he still wants to let it run.

Lets not slag the MMOC off when we only have part of the story??? :o

As for "verbal contract", not worth the air its written on, I'm afraid, and you've all confused the term with "oral contract". Look it up. Its one word against another.

which John?? What do you mean? Keep what under which hat??

To be fair, if I were him I would probably do the same myself. And I believe that most on here would do likewise. It also redresses the issue raised by some that the Morris Minor is undervalued.

Of couse any implied verbal contract is a matter to be resolved between the seller and potential buyer.

if this car's number wasn't so valuable(4.5k) i don't think it would have so much interest shame really as i like the car but i fear it'll be bought for the plate and not for the car. over a grand now!
