There also should be a thick large diameter washer backing up the cupped washer - just in front of the nut. Fit these - and screw the nut up to the end of the thread and I think you will be fine. Just looked at your pics - the bushes look ok.

It does look a bit 'home made' - and yes it would be better to be supported on both sides and not hanging on a cantilever bolt. However - it doesn't interfere with the tie-rod connection which is below, and that's where the little rectangular spacer should be.

The car is a work in progress, thats how it came to me I agree it would be much better to have a double bracket, but at the moment I would be happy to know what car the damper is off! Im assuming its a mini but im probably wrong.

The mount is a similar arrangement up top with a plate bolted under the lever arm damper.

I must say I dont like the arrangement much, but it seems to work okay

It does interfere... you cant see it in the pic, but that plate extends downwards and the bit the tie bar bolts too is bolted through it

Matt, Have you forgotten what I noticed when I popped over 'unnanounced'?
The bush retaining washers were shot and had dished outward.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Ahh -certainly can't see the support going down to the fork-bolt, but if it's there then that will be fine instead of the rect washer -and will also give that damper bracket more support than we can see from the pic. If the washers have dished the wrong way - then that could be a reason - and it's why my car has thick washers behind the dished ones. Not sure if they are standard - but always been there on mine.

No Pete I hadnt forgotten that, but I cant see that that would move the bushes enough to cure the problem. I have got some new bushes on the way and will put some nice thick washers in too

It may be worth checking your tie rod for wear on the shoulder that stops the washer sliding down the rod I measured a spare one I've got & it is 2" from the end of the threads to the shoulder

Okay... finally had a chance to have a look in daylight.

A couple of conclusions....
the washers arn't shot, they were just on the wrong way around
Bushes are shot, the rear ones were only 2/3rds teh size of the new ones

So whats caused the problem? The rear washer on both sides has been forced over the shoulder. I have no idea how this could have happened, any suggestions?

It could be that poly bushes are too hard for this location of the Morris 1000. The red poly bush is the hardest compound used for the bushes. That said, I use Poly bushes all round and they have been fine, no problems at all.

I would fit rubber bushes to the tie bars and new dished washers and see how you go from there.
