Has any one had a MOT with one of these to test the braking.
I did today instead of the rollers he used a device to measure the braking efficency from inside the car on a road test. Much better because it is not affected by the balance so easier to pass. We also did a run with the hand brake. Then he put the results into the computer and computer said yes!

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
The single circuit brake is an interesting point - my local fully computerised testing station told me that the car had passed even though one rear wheel was 28% and the other only 12%. Apparantly the computer had decided that it was dual circuit, and that the reading was OK. Common sense says that there was something wrong (semi-seized cylinder of course)

OK, I discreetly corrected the spelling once and now it's been changed back - what's the joke I'm missing?RogerRust wrote:Has any one had a MOT with one of these to test the breaking.

I've had varoius vehicles tested with a Tapley meter - generally old or obscure stuff where the weight isnt quoted on the wall chart. Generally means an easy pass and a blast down the road with the tester. Last one was a '30s two seater special with minimal bodywork and old hard crossply tyres. It just locked up and slid, leaving two black lines down the road. Still passed! The minors always go on the brake testing rollers though, so we find out which wheel cylinders are seized or drums full of oil.... Not half as fun!
cheers

I thought it was only cars with a limited slip diff that got a road test these days.

My local MOT place has started using the road test method on most of my cars. (Last time I think that it was just because he wanted to drive a Trabant...)
Officially he says it's because the weight isn't stated, therefore can't use the rollers in line with latest regs.
If the brakes pull badly to one side, this should be instantly spotted on a road test - however some braking issues are much harder to spot (eg rear wheel brake balance)
