Yes, 18mm is one of the few Metric sizes that is pretty much exactly the same as a Whitworth size (3/8 Whitworth in this case). You can get away with metric tools for some fixings, at a push as they can be close, but its much nicer to use the proper sized Whitworth tools. (and more satisfying!:lol:
) The correct Whitworth tool seems to work better when undoing fixings than the nearest metric, for some reason.
These tools can be had inexpensively from e-bay, or even car boot sales (or free from an older relative who used to timker with old cars) and several suppliers on the web sell whitworth/BSF sizes.
