Re: Just how good is a round Smith's heater
For the record my round Smiths heater is now installed and working very well indeed, it looks period and gets the interior toasty. I think Smiths made two sizes, both the same diameter but one is roughly 3ins deep and one nearly double that, mines the bigger one.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.ph...

This is just the sort of reply I was hoping for, do you drive much with the hood down in the winter?ASL642 wrote:'63 convertible owner with round Smiths heater. Ours works so well we turn it off it's too hot! Make sure your radiator is fully flushed out and all the hoses are sound.

Just how good is a round Smith's heater
Having sold my Minor convertible a while ago I now have an '51 MG and was thinking of installing an early round Smith's heater as the car doesn't have one originally. Can a convertible owner tell me how efficient these little heaters are? I like to drive with the hood down and don't expect much heat...

actually it is motorway all the way, there really isn't an alternative unless you want to spend eight hours behind the wheel. I think the easiest way is for him to hire a low-loader and drive down - that's what i'd do, cheapest and quickest. Once I sell a car i'm really loathed to drive it, sods law...

transporting car to Pembroke
Probably my last post for a while. I've sold my morris to a chap from Ballynilard in N. Ireland and was wondering the best way to get it to him from S. Devon. It's a distance of 222 miles to Pembroke (ferry port in S. Wales), any readers live in Pembroke where I could get the car dropped off for a s...

i've joined this conversation a bit late but i can thoroughly recommend the monsoon cover, it's easy to handle, totally weatherproof, has four breathing 'ears' and the service from the company is first rate. i had a uv problem with one of my covers, rang the company and new one arrived in the post -...

on the back of the regulator there is a short wire going to the fuel gauge, this had a spare 'spade' where it left the regulator so to save breaking into the wire i connected to that.Packedup wrote:
Have you wired the temp through the voltage stabiliser? If not then that might be your problem!

oil pressure and water temp
finally got round to connecting up my instruments. the oil pressure is 50 cold at tick-over and about 35 hot at tick-over, is this reasonable? the water temp is halfway between normal and hot, is this due to the 88 deg C thermostat i fitted and could i expect the temp to drop to normal with a cooler...

fitting an oil pressure gauge

can someone advise on connecting this little lot.
i assume B goes to C with a washer between, and D goes into the engine and the spare washer on the back of the gauge, but what of the rest?

how many do you see?
On my daily travels around my area i see three minors parked on the road, two on driveways and two on axle stands, that's five regularly used (not including mine). They certainly brighten my day. How many do you see on a regular basis? How many other old cars do you ever see that are used on a daily...
