No doubt master and slave cylinders will be frowned upon soon?
Has anyone seen Jaguar's "rebranding" and their latest advertisement?

Re: Rubber Grommet in Bumper
Like Bill has done, I have two foglights secured to the STEEL valance. Square bases too, but I also made and fitted two steel flat bar strengtheners. No movement whatsoever. I also committed the sin of fitting a badge bar years ago. Drilling the holes for the lights was scary to ensure they fitted p...

Re: Head Gasket Replacement Frequncey
Re gasket longevity. I removed the head 24 years ago, only to decarbonise (others might disagree) and check the valves, guides and seats. Minimal valve seat lapping needed, guides good. Obviously used a new gasket and all torqued to specified with a follow up after 100 miles. So in answer to "f...

Sky blue pink with a yellow border is very eye catching.

Hopefully the o.p. hasn't fitted a 948cc lever? There's a difference depnding on 'box and engine.Images stolen from ESM. However, the carbon release bearings are not interchangeable.

Re: Timing chain swop
As Bill writes re no. 4 on t.d.c. firing stroke.
I recently changed mine and queried this.
I had changed it years ago but without the distributor cap removed.
It was only because, after removing the distributor cap, I noticed the rotor arm was at cyl. 4 with the dots aligned.

When I was an apprentice, many moons ago, a fitter asked one of the other apprentices, "How many thous are there in an Inch?"
Reply - "Oh, they're very small, there must be millions."

Re: Grease gun and grease
That's the recommendation in service data, not a consensus.
10 strokes of EP90 using a pressure gun every 12,000 miles - do not over lubricate.

Re: Grease Nipple location
In spite of adapting a deep socket to fit and remove them there are none fitted to mine in the 25 years of ownership. None on the front brake shoes either because the backplate doesn't possess holes for the retaining pins/springs.
Just like Myrtles Man they work exactly as they should.

Re: Log Book registration query
I recall that when I bought my car in 1999 the vehicle identity on the V5 wasn't correct. It was something fairly trivial - started with MA5 - which if the 5 was mistakenly used in place of S, was still wrong. Should have been MA2S, 2 door saloon. It was corrected at the time though.

From the DVLA V.E.D. status page for my car. My Heritage Certificate confirms 1962. Six character registration, e.g. ABC123.

Re: Ignition issues
Mmm, time will tell, but "1.1 petrol saloon" caused a minor ( ) twitch in the needle on my BS meter. I realise most of us would specify 1098cc., but, the 948cc engine block does have 950 cast onto it. My daily car is 1329cc but is usually written a 1.33litre. However, suspicions wil...

Re: Security devices
With the required knowledge it is quite simple to bypass the ignition switch supply to the coil. Possible a modern scumbag doesn't know that though. If the above information is not allowed then I will quite willingly delete it. Not a real solution that will prevent the car from being pinched, but so...

I tried Carlube Type R 20/50 , when hot It's like pi55 water , now on duckhams Q 20/50... John ;-) Consequently, I once used Carlube 20W50 and noticed a drop in oil pressure when at operating temperature. From the usual 35 p.s.i. to 60 p.s.i., depending on engine revs., down to 25 to 50 p.s.i. unde...

Oh to be a Nomad and a member of a people that travels from place to place to find fresh pasture for its animals and has no permanent home (I stole that definition).
Which would make it rather difficult to take out insurance.

Re: Toe In
From the posts and the manual the toe in is 3/32 inch. I assume this is the total by the trammel method. If so would it be 3/64 on both sides by the string method? I would say yes. Manual states "extent" which I would interpret as total. I use the string method and set(metric) the toe in ...

No doubt it will depend on what the intended use for the car is. Daily use probably go for one of those recommended or more "upmarket". My car is only used when the weather and roads are dry. Mainly a couple of days a week. As a result I just opt for the cheapest! My present policy premium...
