Good afternoon gents. I have bought a new heater decal from Sticky Fingers for my 1969 saloon heater as the lettering has faded badly. The heater pumps out really good heat, suggesting a new matrix in the recent past as the heater hoses look new too.
So my question is this. Rather than take out the whole heater unit, is it possible to lower it by an inch or so to allow me to remove the front fascia plate and fit the decal at the workbench?
I don't want to go down the letraset route that is why i bought the full cover version.
If I have to remove the heater then so be it but if anybody has lowered the heater, I'd love to hear from you.

Yes, you can lower the heater but it is a bit of a fiddle and almost as much work as taking the heater out entirely. You need to take out at least the passenger side glove box and then you can access the 2x screws, nuts and washers that hold the heater at the top. These are tricky to access and you may find you have to take out both gloveboxes and also slide the speedo forward (by loosening but not removing the 1 screw either side that hold in the speedo). You absolutely must disconnect the battery before using tools inside the dashboard as there are permanent live electrics there. Then you need to remove the machine screws at either end of the parcel shelf bracket (underneath) to allow the parcel shelf to drop down. Next loosen the nuts on either side holding the heater to the brackets at the rear. The heater will now drop down. To remove the heater knob, either warm it with a heat gun and wiggle it off or buy a new knob and accept the old one will probably break on removal. The knob fits onto a barbed metal piece.

Thanks Stephen. It's good to know it is do-able. It so happens that i was given 2 chrome washer jets for my birthday las week. Glove boxes need to come out for this job too. Moving the speedo out a bit will give me better acces to run illumination wires from my light switch to the oil pressure gauge Iwant to fit.

Great. Makes a lot of sense to do all of those jobs at once. I learnt how to use crackle paint, repainted the fascia panel and then sent the panel to Sticky Fingers who printed the lettering on for me.
