I think they look great - they should be called "Fred Bassets" for that sleepy look! Don't they slow the car down though? In the Supreme Small Car book there's a lot of information about racing Riley 1.5s and their cowled headlamps gooing up the aerodynamics, and they're so much smaller. -...

Yes they did! Only one market didn't catch Minor Fever.

Why do you "have to use Safari"? I didn't mean that as 'forced to use...' so much as 'it came pre installed with...'. There's nothing wrong with Safari. If you covered up the toolbar, 99% of people (including me) wouldn't notice the difference between it and Internet Explorer. If it displ...

You firefox people don't deserve real internet! What is all this with browsers? They're all the same. I was born and bred IE, and now that I've swapped my PC for an iBook I have to use Safari... surprise surprise Safari is pretty much identical in use to Explorer. :-? The Sefton Branch Website...

Yes, that's it, the wasted spark system. There is a little computer of sorts on the bulkhead, but it's referred to as an ignition control module rather than engine control. Any reliablity problems with the system seem to come from water getting into this module - Ford did a recall to fit some part b...

This sounds familiar. My (carb) Fiesta doesn't have a distributor. I don't fully understand it, but it's got something called a 'coil pack' where the HT leads come direct from the coil. There's a missing tooth on the flywheel and each time that does a complete turn, the coil pack fires out four spar...

I see! Well, personally, for me anything is better than having the gangs of scum on the streets putting people in hospital, destroying property and terrorising people......... As the Police admit, the problem isn't establishing a criminal's identity once caught, it's pinning them to the crime and l...

Well, I voted Labour last time, but only to cancel out a Tory cross. Like Andrew, I won't carry an ID card and think it's an insane waste of our money. But I will reserve judgement on the PAYG road system until they tell us exactly how much petrol duty (& road tax for our younger cars) will be r...

We've had this discussion before, haven't we? Surely the fuel gauge is pointless too - lots of older cars (like Fiat 500s) don't have those, just a little lightbulb. The speedometer, too - just keep up with the traffic. Model Ts didn't have speedos and look how many of those they sold :/

RE: What colour?

New car colours, especially metallic blues are my favourite. Most of the 60s BMC colours are quite dull and something brighter can make the cars look surprisingly 'modern'.

RE: Full Body Respray

Spraying paint onto a car is quite a skill, at least doing it well is. As such, many painters are under the impression that mixing a little Azure blue and spraying it onto the wing of a scuffed Fiesta makes them Picasso. Therefore, if you find one of these painters no prep work will be good enough u...

That is superb. If I ever bought a modern car, I'd get one and then take the bulbs out of my left indicators.

Just to confuse the MOT man.

Hi, Gemma.

Do you mean one of the 200 odd Lilac Minor Millions? There is a Minor Million register who would probably be the best point of contact. Hopefully one of the knowledgeable people from this forum know the contact details, because I don't.

It's a cherished banger! The bodywork is solid but way past cosmetic best. We've had it since new though and wouldn't want any harm.

I'll use the converter for now, and next time the screen gets chipped give it the proper treatment.

There's a nasty patch of rust under and around the windscreen rubber of mum's Mini - the cosmetics don't matter, we just want it stabilised. Will a rust converter damage the screen rubber?

The horn in the Mini broke. I'm stupid, and did a really kack handed job of replacing it - which had to be repaired by the garage. The horn wasn't even broken. It was the switch. £70 for the parts alone!
