Ray, I think its red/pink coliured grease. All the nipples have it around the outside, and when I put grease into the front legs it forces some red stuff out further down.

You can fit modern accessories that are only -ve earth.
You can fit electronic ignition, that only works with -ve earth.
The car should be a little less prone to rust, I believe.

steering rack lubrication

Hi, it looks to me like the steering rack lubrication nipple has previously been treated to grease rather than oil. There is the same red gunge around the nipple as round the other nipples on the car. What should I do? Just start lubricating with oil or do I need to clean out the grease somehow?

Charly, try Minator 13J wheels. They are copies of the Minitel alloys popular with Minis.

Charly, you have to make sure you get wheels the correct size. There are two things to look out for. First, the distance between the wheel nuts, measured diagonally between 2 "corners". This must match exactly, otherwise you will not be able to get the wheel on! Second, the width of the wh...

Thanks, I thought the new oil got dirty quickly! The Birmingham centre has all the missing parts so I plan to change the oil and filter again and put in the parts.

oil filter

I changed the engine oil and filter recently. When I removed the filter housing all that was inside was the filter itself, none of the springs and washers that the books say should be there. Does anyone know if these bits are really important? I only get a few drips a week from the filter, so it see...

Well, thanks to Kate's detailed instructions I decided to go for the standard filter. I'll let you know after Christmas if it was the right decision.

By the way, anyone in the Midlands planning a visit to the Oldbury centre, they are closed between Christmas and New Year.

replacement oil filter

I am gathering the bits I need for a service over christmas (car not carol), the first I've ever done. I wondered which is the easier job, change the oil filter with standard or replace with one of the spin on oil filters that the birmingham centre sell. I know the replacement will be better in the ...

I found a source of water leaking into the box section under the rear seat that I haven't seen menioned anywhere. 1968 2 door, rubber seal round the passenger side rear window is in a bad state. Water seeps inside the rubber, drips off the panel onto the plastic covering the wheel arch, runs down he...

thanks, all

So if I need to raise the whole of the rear, say to paint the underside, do I need to jack up each corner individually and put a stand under it or is there a point in the middle where I can jack up the whole rear end?

Jacking points

Sorry to ask such basic questions, but I don't want to risk damage to my new car! If I'm using a trolley jack, exactly where are the strong points at the front and rear of the car? And then having raised the end, where on the axle should the stands go, just behind the wheel or midway between wheel a...

How do I know it's an unleaded head?

Hi, just got my first Minor. Does anyone know how I can positively tell if it has been converted to use unleaded petrol? I'm using additive for now to be on the safe side.

Thanks
