Re: eMog

Finally, the other option of fitting the motor to the heel board. It's a bit harder to mock up, so here is a cross-section drawing which hopefully shows enough. There's already a big box section here and adding some heavier metal work would only strengthen the car. I'm a bit worried this will be too...

Re: eMog

From the top, the 60mm hollow section cross brace might need to have something bridging the gap between the 2 sides. The big cone thing sticking out the back is a very rough outline of the motor -> propshaft link. I don't want the motor bearings to have to deal with the weight of the propshaft. I'm ...

Re: eMog

Just over four years! Hello. well, I didn't want to bore you with all the pictures of rusty panels and dodgy welding. The worst of the restorative work is over and I've been fitting the new front suspension & working out how/where to mount the motor between tidying up and preparing for the rear ...

Seb, I think the main problem with the mini engine is that it has a different end on the crankshaft - there is a shaft to put an idler gear on (http://www.minisport.com/acatalog/info_CAM6232.html), rather than the rwd design (http://www.charleswaresmorrisminorcentre.co.uk/catalogue/eng02.gif) that h...

Thanks, they look very interesting. I'm surprised that twisting of the spring when you accelerate isn't an issue, but i guess if you can do it OK on an MGB, a (standard) minor should be fine.

Sorry if I'm being thick (I did try a search, honest!)
what is the story with parabolic leaf springs? Are they more progressive or something?

Taupe, I am learning sooo much from your photos, thank you. Is there a good book I can get that explains your measuring/marking out techniques - it's obviously a big part of your magic. :D

Why was the big hole there in the first place? It kind of makes a mockery of the whole 'bulkhead' thing. Something to do with the factory process perhaps.

Hi maverick, I've got exactly this section taken apart at the moment, see here for some pictures: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=28951&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 It's pretty fiddly, because of the hard to get at welding. Mine was trashed at...

You have plenty to be proud of carlt by the sound of it. There has been a lot of stuff'n'nonsense talked about electric cars ( I could get wrapped up in consipracy theories...), but it's all about guys like you (and me one day?) actually doing it. It must have been very frustrating. Your package sou...

Hi carlt, yes, these LEMCO motors are, I believe, designed by Cedric Lynch who now works with agni motors. Lemco do a tandem configuration which could work well with a front engine rwd layout like a moggie, but I think the agni motors are a more up to date design - it would be great to be able to st...

I put a 1275 marina engine in a van about 20 years ago and I'm sure that I used the marina flywheel/moggy clutch and it all fitted fine without mods. I also managed to get the same engine into a mini 1275GT once the van died and that was pretty straightforward too. Have I forgotten something?

Good news/progress and some more questions (should this topic be moved to the new restoration projects group, at least till I get past the point of rebuild?) The first chassis rail fits, though the floor has to be cramped down by 1/4" at the front. At the rear, it seems like the replaced xmembe...

if you're investing in things like welders and compressors, I would say a plasma cutter is not excessive - I got a great one off the interwebs for just over £350 (no compressor) & it works very well.

I'm struggling a little with this too - I have to replace both chassis legs, xmember, sills, spring hangers etc etc (see http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=28951 ). I haven't found a topic that specifically covers all these jobs together, so my route is both legs...

Yes, I know. It's pigeon steps here though. I might decide to space frame it and go all trick, but that's a little too daunting at the moment. Step 1 = MOT (ish).

Hey, I thought I was the one that was supposed to ask the questions! I was going to go all clever with the conversion (AC drive, Lithium batteries etc etc), but the remedial work has kind of slowed me down (£££ as well as time). I've not committed to anything yet, but the plan is 2 Permanent magnet ...
