1971 Pick up project

After spending a very long time thinking about buying a Minor i finally took the dive.

Its a 1971 pickup. It needs a bit of welding and bodywork doing but the chassis looks very solid.

Thoughts and opinions please!

Nice solid looking pickup you have there, get those sill covers off and have a look, thats a major area of potential rot under there. keep us posted on your progress. looking good so far.

Yes it looks pretty sound; just get rid of all that "Cancerous" brown stuff and you'll be fine. Preparation is key to a good result!!

Pick-ups are without doubt the best looking of all the Minors, very practical and in some areas easier to work on.

having a good size garage helps - especially in wet winter months

Those rear spring shackles have been made to Roys design to lift the rear up a bit.

I'd be tempted to lay a bead of weld down the sides of the outside face.

Not so much to make them look standard, more because flat bar isn't very rigid.

Great views, really fascinating to watch your progress, may I suggest a reduction in image size to around 600 pixels wide, thats a bang on size for this forum, you can see the whole image without using the space bar to track across the image area. sorry if thats being piccy, no pun intended. great progress,keep the images coming it makes educational viewing.

Wow! excellent progress, you're not hanging around on this. I'm worried about your rear cross piece, could you support it its full width with a piece of long timber, only mine was bent upward by too much weight at one point, Nice to see the before and after shots.

Thanks would be doing alot more if I'd found a welder to buy lol. Yeh I only had it supported like that for painting. I have supports on both sides via stands normally. Don't think it will bend over two days. Plus with it being an empty chassis with no sprung weight I doubt it would flex. I can lift it with 2 fingers

There's nothing like that sense of satisfaction when you go from rusty , through bare metal to smooth shiney painted parts. I'd better get a move on, not sure I'll make a show next summer though, I plan on slowing down through the cold winter months, my garage is way to small.
