Yes it is definitely a 948 engine (casting stamp) and it is also a ribbed gearbox. What is he easiest way to identify what size gearbox I have? The engine is now removed.

Thanks for your reply. My car has a 948cc engine, but a ribbed gearbox. Can I assume that because it is rubbed it is a 1098 box, and therefore will have a 1098 flywheel and clutch?

I have a 1962 948cc 2 door, and am putting in a 1275 Ital engine, mating it to the Minor gearbox. Question is, is the 948 'box the same as the 1098 one? My gearbox is ribbed, NOT smooth cased.

It is definitely a 948 and the gearbox is definitely ribbed. It is 1962, so one of that late ones.

I have a stripped down 1275 A+ block and crankshaft that I would like checking over by an engineer, with the potential to have it 'fettled' if needed. Can anyone recommend a motor engineering company in or near Colchester that is reputable?

Yes, I replaced the float, valve and brass valve seat - all purchased from ESM as they were all suitable for HS2 carb (apparently...)

No, I thought that there might be packing washers too, so I replaced the valve and can confirm there are no washers underneath it.

No I didn't have a brass float - it was soft plastic one but it has filled up with petrol so is not doing its job very well... Nope, the one I took out was the old 'type' where the float is mounted onto a piece of metal which can be bent to adjust the amount of movement before the valve closes. The new float I ordered is one of the plastic ones which, as part of the moulding has a raised piece so there is no adjustment. Try...
