Re: 2 door VAE 306H
The minor made it to its new home 200 miles north of here with no problems, Its now with my son so I will still be seeing it and no doubt working on it from time to time. Only issue is the vibration at around 65+ before I fitted the new carbs It wouldn't really do much more than this so it wasn't an...

Re: Resonance!!
what you describe sounds like hetrodyning, it happens when you have two frequency generators with similar frequencies, the combination of the two gives a new much lower frequency sounds as the peaks and troughs coincide. As you describe its what you hear on multiple engine piston engined aircraft. I...

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
The outer bore of the damper shaft is a pretty good fit and the cap has a hole in it anyway. I fitted a few LPG conversions in years gone by, for those they enlarged the hole in the cap and fit vacuum lifters which are open to atmosphere when running on petrol with no ill effects. It made no differe...

Re: Pinking/detonation
I would go much colder than 6ES plugs, my Elan runs 7es ones and they are prone to cold fouling after only a couple of cold starts.
Oh and buy them from a ruputable source, the last ngk ones I bought from ebay snapped off leaving just the threaded part in the head.......

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
Took the minor for a 50 mile drive yesterday, no major problems, only issue was shunting when driving at light throttle, I had seen it was weak at light throttle but it seemed to drive OK on shorter drives. So today I set to it. I don't have a rolling road but hoped reving it under no load would sho...

Re: Sudden Scroll Failure?
What engine is it? Compressions can vary quite a bit so are nor definitive in their own right, a leakdowwn test is better.
Only other thing I can think of is they have managed to somehow disturb or crack the backplate changing the clutch causing the oil pump cover to leak.

Re: Engine tuning near me
before getting someone out I'd make sure everything is in good condition, check it has the right needles, that the Jets aren't worn, no air leaks, the floats are OK / at right level, ignition timing, valve clearances etc.

20260623_173503.jpg 20260623_153718.jpg . also had some surface rust on the kick plate where the door seal rubs. 20260623_173506.jpg 20260623_144901.jpg For now I've treated it and primed with epoxy, if it continues to be a problem It might be best to replace with stainless parts, for now I'm going...

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
This is the gauge I am using with a wide band sensor. 20260624_081916.jpg reads fron 10:1 to 17:1, it won't be the ideal 14.7:1 all the time with a carb, but if you can keep it between 13:1 and 15:1 thats pretty good for a carb and it will drive nicely. Been attending to a little area of rust, 20260...

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
I'll check the details tomorrow, it certainly makes things easy compared to messing around with colourtune tailpipe and spark plug colour! Today I sealed between the rear side glass and its seal hopefully that will fix the leak. Also undid the bonnet hinge from the bulkhead the gasket was in shreads...

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
I was deliberatly doing it in steps to understand the relative effects but strangley it didn't have much effect I've still got the AFR gauge on it and its pretty much the same. That said I haven't done a sustained high speed run since fitting them though this is where I would expect the pcv to have ...

Cleaned up the internals of the window regulator. 20260619_111320.jpg Put it back together without the small spring, used tacks of weld where the tabs had broken off, went back on the car easily enough and seems to work OK. Next thing is a leak round one of rear side windows (add some sealer) and th...

Re: 2 door VAE 306H
spent yesterday fiddling with it, found with the idle set at an afr of 14:1 full load acceleration was fine with it running around 13:1 but at light throttle it stumbled and went off the weak end of the scale(17:1). Took several iterations but eventually managed to modify the needle do it runs in th...

Unfortunately this is pretty much par for pattern parts, I've restored a number of cars over the years and the minor panels were some of the worst. It may be there is more than 1 source for panels, if notbite either modify tjem or make fro. scratch which I what I ended up doing for most of ours.

I've got size 13 feet I can't drive it with boots or wide shoes but normal shoes are fine, it does take some getting used to though, I do find the dip switch virtually impossible to use.
