Re: Track rod ends

Are the lower bump stop rubbers in place? Looking at the above photos I get the view that they have not yet been fitted as one of the mounting bolt holes is empty. If they are not then the suspension can fall/lower additionally by several inches. If they are then the height of the suspension needs t...

Re: HS2 spindle bushes DIY

There are no bushes for the spindle ex factory. If you find bushes - the carb has already been overhauled. I have just serviced a HS2 SU carb and fitted a new spindle which was replaced not so much as for the wear but it came as part of the service kit and it would be a shame not to return the carb ...

Re: Engine stand

Having the engine stand bolted up as shown in the photo can lead to a distorted and/or cracked backplate because of only the four mounting bolts into and through the rear engine plate. The bell housing spreads the load. I have had the Clarke/Machine Mart equivalent engine stand for many years and ha...

Re: HS2 spindle bushes DIY

You will need the SU bush fitting tool Burlen Pt No: ABF185. The drill required is just a plain jobber drill size dependent upon the bush being fitted. Burlen can supply the correct bush, the correct size drill and the bush fitting tool. They can supply a spindle and bush kit. The main concern is ge...

Re: Shaking in reverse

Les I did originally consider the engine steady cable but whilst the engine steady cable may be broken it should in its broken state have no effect on the ability to reverse the car in a normal manner i.e. without judder. The engine steady cable is there to prevent any forward movement of the power ...

Re: Shaking in reverse

Check the condition of the engine steady bar rubbers and body mount metal. The steady bar is located under the battery and connects the body with the engine so steadying the engine. The engine steady bar should just hold the engine in a neutral position so not too tight or too slack Also check the c...

Re: 1275 Engine Swap into Minor

There is a booklet originally called 'Marina to Minor' (now re-titled) by Owen Burton and which is available from ESM. It will tell you all you need to know. https://www.morrisminorspares.com/miscellaneous-c82/books-manuals-c83/minor-modification-manual-owen-burton-p831093 IMHO the earlier editions ...

Re: What and where does this pipe go

I would second that the thermostat housing mentioned has a top take off for a temp gauge with the capillary tube truncated and the remains bent over to seal the tube. The thermostat housing with top temp gauge take off was not a non BMC after market part as they were readily available from your loca...

Re: Gear box assistance for newbie please

I would advise against putting anything that is classed as a lubricant i.e. WD40 into the bell housing. It could start to make the clutch slip and the starter Bendix stick. The carbon thrust does not need or react to lubricant in any positive way. If you have a problem you need to remove the gearbox...

Re: 1275 installation clutch release

You have the 1275cc Midget clutch assy fitted. You also have the correct MG Midget clutch release arm which is used with the hydraulic release system. I am not sure how you have attached the mechanical linkage to the hydraulic lever but it appears to work. A photo of the linkage when assembled/attac...

Re: Oil pressure too high

I personally would not worry about the oil pressure especially as it is a rebuilt engine.
No harm will come to the engine with the oil pressure specified above.
If you are worried about the oil pressure take a coil off the oil pressure relief valve spring.

Re: Does the head need to be removed to fit o ring valve oil seals?

I you are going to replace like for like - save yourself some time and effort and leave as is. The small 'O' ring seals are next to useless in stopping oil from going down the valve guide. To do the job properly you need to remove the head and fit the later grooved valve guides to the inlet tracts. ...

The 918cc SV engine crankshaft pulley is not the same as the OHV 803cc & 948cc crankshaft pulley.
The 918cc pulley is a solid item not the multi piece as shown in the photos above.

Re: 1275 installation clutch release

Before you order anything I would confirm what gearbox you have in the car. As I suggested above check the number stamped on the first motion shaft and if you post that number on here we can confirm the gearbox fitted. A photo of your clutch cover as fitted would be helpful. The 12G169 release arm i...

Re: Fuel smell

The fuel filler cap is vented (and supposed to be) so there will always be a sniff of petrol in that area.
All the cork gasket does is stop the cap rattling against the filler pipe.
