Re: Rear leaf springs.

I find that keeping everything loose allows a bit of wiggle room to allow for centring of the axle spring bracket against the poly pads and spring plates. Once the axle is located everything can be tightened. If the 'U' bolts had UNF threads then the 'U' bolts have been replaced once already. The or...

Re: Which clutch

The clutch will slip in second as you are putting more load on the oil soaked centre plate. First gear will not produce so much loading due to the lower gearing. You will have to use a Ford centre plate as the splines are finer than the 'A' series clutch. https://www.morrisminorspares.com/clutch-c15...

Re: anti roll bars

As regards the creaking poly bushes - fit grease nipples to the 'eye bolts' and spray the other poly bushes with silicon grease.

You could use it but I would save it for topping up the dampers.

Re: anti roll bars

The fitment of a anti-roll bar should only be considered 'as part' of a front suspension upgrade.
Just fitting a anti-roll bar could make the car handle worse.
Get the basics right before fitting a anti-roll bar.

Re: anti roll bars

As above - make sure that your dampers are effective and filled with 30 grade oil. I had a original V W Derrington 11/16" dia front anti-roll bar on my Minor for many many years. It has now been sold for use on another Minor. I have upgraded the anti-roll bar to a Own Burton/ESM 3/4" dia i...

Re: Rear leaf springs.

A non answer!! The shoulder of the pin must pull up hard against the inner face of the spring hanger bracket. If it is not allowed to because of the incorrect hole in the plate the pin will not be secure. If the head of the pin cannot be easily pulled through the plate there is a good chance that th...

Re: Rear leaf springs.

Having tried several pins through several plates I can confirm that the head of the pin will pass right through the aperture of the plate with no more than hand pressure. If the pins will not do the above then they should be sent back for a refund. This is not the first time the problem of pin to pl...

Re: Rear leaf springs.

The amount of protrusion does not matter. What does matter is that the shoulder on the other end of the pin has a hard contact against the inner face of the spring mounting bracket. The sides of the large hole in the detachable plate should be parallel right through. The head of the pin should go ri...

Re: Track rod ends

Are the lower bump stop rubbers in place? Looking at the above photos I get the view that they have not yet been fitted as one of the mounting bolt holes is empty. If they are not then the suspension can fall/lower additionally by several inches. If they are then the height of the suspension needs t...

Re: HS2 spindle bushes DIY

There are no bushes for the spindle ex factory. If you find bushes - the carb has already been overhauled. I have just serviced a HS2 SU carb and fitted a new spindle which was replaced not so much as for the wear but it came as part of the service kit and it would be a shame not to return the carb ...

Re: Engine stand

Having the engine stand bolted up as shown in the photo can lead to a distorted and/or cracked backplate because of only the four mounting bolts into and through the rear engine plate. The bell housing spreads the load. I have had the Clarke/Machine Mart equivalent engine stand for many years and ha...

Re: HS2 spindle bushes DIY

You will need the SU bush fitting tool Burlen Pt No: ABF185. The drill required is just a plain jobber drill size dependent upon the bush being fitted. Burlen can supply the correct bush, the correct size drill and the bush fitting tool. They can supply a spindle and bush kit. The main concern is ge...

Re: Shaking in reverse

Les I did originally consider the engine steady cable but whilst the engine steady cable may be broken it should in its broken state have no effect on the ability to reverse the car in a normal manner i.e. without judder. The engine steady cable is there to prevent any forward movement of the power ...

Re: Shaking in reverse

Check the condition of the engine steady bar rubbers and body mount metal. The steady bar is located under the battery and connects the body with the engine so steadying the engine. The engine steady bar should just hold the engine in a neutral position so not too tight or too slack Also check the c...

Re: What and where does this pipe go

I would second that the thermostat housing mentioned has a top take off for a temp gauge with the capillary tube truncated and the remains bent over to seal the tube. The thermostat housing with top temp gauge take off was not a non BMC after market part as they were readily available from your loca...
