Re: Leaf spring question - sub van for trav springs?
The incentive to do an EV conversion is to be awesome. The "charger" is a distinct piece of equipment from the EVSE (power supply, plug and cord). It’s true you could build an EV without an onboard charger, but it's not a very good idea. Effectively, not having one cuts your range in...

Re: Leaf spring question - sub van for trav springs?
Thanks. Actually, most of the weight will still be up front, as there's an equal amount of batteries there, PLUS motor and controller (net of maybe 150 lbs greater than the stock motor). In the rear will be just battery pack plus 50 lbs or so of charger and other fiddly bits. So overall, the weight ...

Re: Leaf spring question - sub van for trav springs?
ESM reports today that a custom bush is all that's needed to mount the van springs on the traveller, and that they may have some. Apparently they had these larger bushings made for a customer a while back and had to order 100 of them (!). If the best answer is to add a few leaves worth of thickness,...

Re: Leaf spring question - sub van for trav springs?
Thanks guys! The link to my conversion thread is here: http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94145 and resto thread here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=54543 Both only started, and not very well updated, I'm afraid... :( How does one measure the weight the springs c...

Re: Leaf spring question - sub van for trav springs?
Thanks for the feedback. The extra weight is lithium ion batteries. I'm converting to electric drive. 500 lbs overall with half the modules in place of the gas tank, and the other half under the bonnet. It would be better to get the weight *between* the axles, of course, but there is limited opportu...

Leaf spring question - sub van for trav springs?
Hi all - I've got a traveller that will have a permanent ~300lbs in the boot, behind the axle. I'm looking at options for uprating the rear suspension. I note on ESM the availability of 8-leaf springs for van/pickup, which I imagine give some additional load capacity over the traveller's 7 leaf (whi...

Re: Help! Ill-fitting wheel arches
Thanks to you both for the quick replies. I also got a helpful email from Steve Foreman. Sounds like my guys are just being extra cautious, which is great.
It's a relief to know we're not so far off. Cheers - Jason

Help! Ill-fitting wheel arches
I got a desperate call from the welding shop today trying to get replacement panels to fit on my '68 trav. While they've done a great job with the sills, floors and spring hangers, it's the rear inner wheel arch and flange replacements that seem to be poor fits, and they're worried about stresses on...

Indeed. She'll be well cared for in the "convalescent home." A dry garage and a tidy undercoating...and a low sodium diet.davidpidge wrote:Dream come true for a Moggie to retire in California! Do you have rust there?

Jason's 1968 Traveller Restoration
Hi all. I'm undertaking a restoration in California. Here's my story in brief: In 2012, my wife and I bought a '68 Traveller on Ebay, sight unseen, and went to Scotland for our 10-year wedding anniversary. We had a great time over the next week, driving a 500-mile loop around the highlands, from Abe...

Re: Need photos of a trav bootwell repair
Circling back, a few more photos. Went by the body shop today. The first photo shows the area forward of the box referred to above. The second is the area I was trying to sort with the original post. Maybe it can help someone else to see how the parts match up in the corners of the bootwell floor wi...

Re: Need photos of a trav bootwell repair
Also, prior to any panel work, the cross bracing you see in the photos was welded into place to maintain dimensions. No part of the floors aft of the vertical bit under the back seat has been cut out.

Re: Need photos of a trav bootwell repair
Thanks - I see what you mean, but I think it's just a bad photo angle/perspective, as that wasn't the spot of concern I was trying to illustrate with the photos. The inner rails (with front seatbelt anchorage points) dictate the dimension I believe you're referring to, and those panels are new and f...

Re: Need photos of a trav bootwell repair
Hi! Thanks and very sorry for the long delay in reply. Your car looks very tidy!
What my shop is trying to figure out is the corners of the bootwell floor. I think we've got it lined up based on the wood kit dry fitting. Having trouble posting photos but I'll keep trying.

Need photos of a trav bootwell repair
Hi all - I'm undertaking a restoration of a '68 Traveller in California. I'm looking for some reference photos to give to my body shop specific to the rear bootwell area (ideally, with the wood off so they can see how the inner wings and such all match up. I've searched around the resto threads with...
