the coil on the car when i bought it could be the wrong one if i buy a coil for a 1098 at least ill know it will be right

The white wire is 'live'......the white/black wire is the connection from coil to dizzy - where it is earthed by the points when they are closed. But the impedance of the coil (~ 3.2 ohms) normally limits the current flow. When the points are open, 12 volts will be shown at both connections on the ...

are you saying I've got the wires on wrong the white lead is to the + on the coil I'm saying that if you connect a 12 volt wire to the points they will melt. 12 volts goes to one side of the coil, and the wire from the other side of the coil goes to the points. ill check the wires and see which one...

the car is a negative earth the minus sign on the battery is on the earth of the car

yes greased the cam this is the second set thats melted first set was a 1 piece the second a2 piece from charles ware thaks for your reply

points problem

why is the plastic on my points melting these are the second lot fitted. only run the car for about 20 mins and it cut out when i checked the gap they had closed because they had melted could it be afaulty dizzy
