Traveler update
I finally got a chance to work on the traveler today so it is now ready to get registered. After installing the new 1275 transmission and clutch it seems to shift and go thru the gears just fine. I ended up using the 1275 transmission with the 948 clutch and fork but with a 1275 throw out bearing, t...

throw out bearing
I have finally had some time to work on the Minor. The smooth case transmission o f the 948 engine destroyed itself so I am replacing it with a ribbed case from a 1275 MG Midget. I have installed the new pressure plate and the new (to this car) transmission. I have tried pulling the throw out bearin...

Re: Changing from hydraulic to mechanical clutch
I have some pictures finally. I would like to keep the 948 fork and rod and I plan on getting a new pressure plate and clutch. The 948 pressure plate and fork is pictured, can I get a new 948 pressure plate/clutch or should/could I use a 1275?? The front cover shown in the pictures is from the smoot...

Changing from hydraulic to mechanical clutch
Changing from hydraulic to mechanical clutch I am changing out my smooth case transmission for a ribbed case from a MG midget. I have removed the plate that holds the throw out bearing to the transmission from the smooth case to the ribbed case so it can be a mechanical clutch instead of the MGs hyd...

Re: my transmission
thanks for the advice, I will let you know how it ends up. Oil level is good in everything and will check the ribbed case when installed.

my transmission
I finally got my 58 traveler on the road, for about 30 minutes. Some quick background on the car... I purchased it not running and had not run on at least 20 years. I did the brakes and fuel system, tune up new tires. About 30 minutes into my trip a noise like a box of rocks shaking about from the t...

valve stem seals
I am going to be replacing the valve stem seals on my 948 soon. Can anyone tell me the size they are for the cap or bucket type seal (they are called umbrella seals here). I would like to get them ahead of time so if any one has the diameter of the valve stem that would be helpful as auto part store...

timing chain
I am getting a rattling noise coming from the front of the engine, I think it is the timing chain?
Any tips on removing a timing chain, I assume the radiator must come out first.
I have started working on the Morris again and will post some pictures when I get it on the road.

fuel sender
I just opened the top of my fuel sender to see if it was salvageable and it looks good except there is fuel inside the coil area. Is that normal or even safe???
The float is bad but I have other floats that should work.

Minis
Does anyone know of an austin mini web site similar to this one?? I have been searching but have not found anything yet.

I am thinking of starting a mail order catalogue of British car parts (minor included) for the U.S. I know there are plenty of companies now but there is always room for more. I am trying to find out who makes some of the Minor repair panels and other parts that are being made as well, or just findi...

Fuel senders
Will a midget fuel sender work in a Morris Minor Traveler gas tank?? or any other sender for MGs, Triumphs or austin sprites. These are easy to get here in the states, I can mail order one I know but this would be quicker if possible.

Midget 1500 engine
Not a Minor question buy you guys seem to know all about midgets as well. I have a chance to buy a 1977 Midget for $600 good solid car but pops out of reverse. I have a ribbed case trans out of an earlier Midget I believe with the 1250 motor. Will it fit to the 1500 engine??? The car has some other ...

Re: United States Car Club???
I also think it would be a great idea to have a Minor club, count me in if I can be of help or PM with any ideas. This is a great for site for information but really does not work if you are looking for large parts or whole cars (shipping gets pretty pricey). A U.S. site would help that a lot.

I went out this morning to take some interior pictures as I had none, they are not the best but you get the idea. It has 72,000 miles and came from Arizona (Dry and Hot) so absolutely no rust. Every one looked at in the past 3 years had lots of rust and bondo so I passed on them. A friend of mine th...
