I am getting a rattling noise coming from the front of the engine, I think it is the timing chain?
Any tips on removing a timing chain, I assume the radiator must come out first.
I have started working on the Morris again and will post some pictures when I get it on the road.

Re: timing chain
It is normal for a standard Minor engine. The "fix" is to fit the tensioner system from a later Mini. Most of the suppliers sell a kit in the UK but not sure how you would fair in the USA...?
To answer the last part of your question - unless you are a gynocologist, I'd suggest removing the rad first

Re: timing chain
Take the easy way of removing the crankshaft nut-use a large adjustable spanner, turn so it is just about to hit the chassis rail, and give the starter a quick twitch!
If you buy a standard chain and "anti chatter rings" you will soon find the noise reappearing. If you go down the late Mini/metro timing tensioner and case set up, then get the corresponding damper type pulley, as this will help prolong the main bearing life, and has the added bonus of the timing marks lining up at the top of the case rather than underneath!!
For reference, crank nut is 1 1/4" AF on early and late A-series.

Re: timing chain
Just make sure you understand which way the engine is going to spin - so the spanner doesn't go flying! The cheaper mod is to fit a fit Duplex chain - but this doesn't guarantee quietness - the Mini kit does. However it does involve fitting a new and quite expensive timing cover - as well as new sprockets/chain/tensioner assembly and seal & gasket for the timing cover! And - a small blind hole has to be drilled in the front plate - but this is very easy to do.

Re: timing chain
its the left chassis rail you need to bring the spanner down on
it worked for me once

Re: timing chain
Oh it works very well - but imagine the chaos if the spanner was set on the wrong rail!
