Hi all I have another question if i change the diff of a van to a car do i have to change the speedo? if yes how will i know if a speedo came off a car or a van or even a Morris Minor not a mini? thanks

there are numbers on the face of them. I am sure Willie will come along and inform you about them. So you do have to change the speedo.

If you change only the diff ratio then the simplest way would be to have the
speedo recalibrated, (someone on here will recommend a company). Problems arise when you change speedos if they are from different Minor
models as the fuel gauges need their own particular types of sender unit in
the tank in order to work properly. To advise you we need to know the
year and present running gear of your vehicle.

thanks for the help well the vehicle is a Minor pick-up from 1966 it runs a 1098cc engine a box and commercial diff as it is low

If you change to a 4.22-1 diff then you need to aquire a speedo with the
number on the face SN4477/80 (bronze coloured face) or, on a black faced
speedo SN4419/04(mph),or SN4419/05(kph). Another suitable black faced
type is SN4423/06. Any of these will go straight in and need no modifications.

you take some measurements, send them your speedo and it comes back perfectly calibrated.

Re-calibration can fix the speed reading, however this will not correct the mileage innaccuracy!
Best bet is to get a speedo matching a 4.22 diff

this guy will re-callibrate both your speedo and milage if you give him the readings he requires. Costs about £35 inc VAT. Nice chap too...

When I changed my speedo I adjusted the mileage reading to match the old
one and it was a fairly easy job. It was over eleven years ago but I remember it as being very straightforward.

Cam's page was useful, but I have 2 speedos numbered 4423/00 and 4423/04, neither of which seem to be covered. Probably 4:55, both black face and MPH. Any clue anyone? It'd be great if one was a 4:22

I have a speedo numbered SN4423/04 Fitted to my pickup, and I`m pretty sure I have a 4:22 Diff fitted if that`s any help?

It would make sense, certainly - I've got a couple of them, and didn't compare them to the ones in cars - it was dark! I wonder what the 00 is - Mini or something?
