Which models & varients had externally locking passenger doors and which did not?

my 1970 2 door does, but my brothers 1970 4 door does not!

All I can say is that I haven't got an external lock on my drivers side on the MM. Which is LHD but they didn't introduce LH door locks until later.

I'm always amused by the story that Morris Minor's sold in the USA did not have a lock on the drivers door until this point in time. British Quality!

Well, in New Zealand we had to take what the gummint would let us buy, and through the 50's and 60's that was british cars, slowly migrating to aussie cars. In those days a 2 year old car could be sold for more than the purchase price because of the effective rationing of new vehicles.

Even my 1968 Traveller only came here because the original owners were english and had "overseas funds" to pay for the car.

Only because you don't have the correct key! The car itself does have a lock...

I was late for an appointment and couldn't find anywhere to park accept down a one way street, tightly alongside a fence.

Well, thanks for all the comments folks. You see, I want to park the other way around and have my driver's door up against the fence. Of course then I'd need to use the passenger door to get in/out.

So, it looks like they started putting locks in the passenger doors (2 door model) in October 1963 and guess when my car was built? Yes, that's right, SEPTEMBER 1963!!! Heigh ho!

It is straightforward to retro-fit a key lock to a passenger side 2 door. Take off the trim panel and have a look at the lock assembly. You should find that the casting has the housing for the key barrel. If not, get hold of a replacement from a later car. Obtain a barrel & key, and fit it and the operating cam / return spring. CAREFULLY measure and drill a hole for the key - you will need to lightly tap out the skin a little to allow the lock to fit. Job done.

Of course it's not quite that simple - to remove and refit the lock you have to remove the windows frame! To make sure that you've got all the lock parts it is probably easier to get a later complete lock assembly.

Mines a 66 and only has a drivers side lock, maybe its had a new door or maybe its completely random. Fords used to be great for that, it was pot luck what gear linkages or accessories you got...
Which parts bin is closer to the assembly line I guess!
