Hi,

I have a 1970 2 door but cant find a VIN anywhare. The Chassis plate has worn to a blank and I can't find it stamped on the bulk head anywhare. Where is it likley to be??

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

There isn't/wasn't one. There's a body number (I think - a saloon expert will tell you where in a minute, if there is ) and chassis number ( http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/index.ph ... sis+number ) though. The VIN is a nasty modern thing - "A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN or chassis number) is required on all vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980."

Ah, OK. Where would I find the chassis number other than on the chassis plate? I have scanned the bulk head and cant find one anywhere.

Like Willie said on that post I linked to, it's usually under paint, but it must be somewhere else too. Best wait for somebody else to advise - I only have commercials where it's on a nice big plate in the cabin!

Look on the bulkhead somewhere near where the throttle cable passes through. The six digits at the end of the chassis number should be there (on some cars anyway ). These denote the the body number, the other letters and numbers relate to the model type.

You should find the number stamped in the floor panel just in front of the drivers seat. Well, my '70 2 door does anyway.
I think this is the secondary spot only, there should be one on the firewall somewhere.

Does that (out of interest) apply to the Brit cars? I've never heard it before.

It IS a Brit car (private import) .

Fair enough - I've still never heard of that one though Or a Morris still having original floor under the driver's feet, come to that... You guys and your climate

Yes, it does apply to the Brit cars. But not the early ones. Not exactly sure when they started stamping the floor. Of course with lots of cars having replacement floors (in the UK anyway) the bulkhead is the best place to look.

Mine is where the dot is - stamped on to the bulkhead.

My wife sat down with the chassis plate earlier and came up with this

Does this look correct because I aint gotta clue and the HPI check doesn't like it?

More likely to be MA2S5D1245237M

That's a correct format number though for a 2 door saloon.

It looks right to me. From memory,
M= Morris
A= A series engine
2S = 2 door saloon
5 (not S) = series five Minor
D = Deluxe

The M on the end, not sure - might be (built in) Morris Cowley.

Your car is number 1245237 (started at 501). It was built in February or March 1969.

Woot. Best year for Morris Minors, quite definately. The next thing to do is to paint it Trafalgar Blue; then you'd be able to join the ultra-exclusive Traffy Blue G reg register...
