plug leads

A really stupid question here which does nothing for my credibilty.

In changing the plug leads, I've forgotten which one goes where. I have a distributer cap with no leads in it and 4 plugs waiting to be connected. Can anyone nip out and have a quick look please?

I've got the side entry style cap with the screw terminals. Looking down on it from the front of the car, the four holes in the cap point roughly upwards and are front and back nearest the block and front and back nearest the wing. The plugs are 1-4 starting from the front so can anyone tell me which goes to what please?

I promise to take more care in future but it shows how much you forget if you dont write it down at the time.

Many thanks everyone.

presuming that you have a minor 1000 engine...

Put your finger loosely in the #1 spark plug hole and turn the engine with the starting handle. When your finger is pusshed off the hole then that is the firing stroke on #1.

See where the rotor arm points and connect the HT lead from the nearest distributor cap position to #1 plug.

Then working ANTICLOCKWISE round the dizzy, the order is 1, 3 , 4 ,2 (I think ;-) )

No1 is generally bottom right (4 ')' clock) on the dizzy, I've found.
