WHAT SORT OF WOOD IS USED TO BUILD TRAVELLER ?????

Ash, as it is the most durable strengthwise. It was also used for high stress areas of early 20th century fabric covered wooden aircraft. Areas such as fuselage longerons and undercarriage struts, which had to withstand twisting and flexing are examples. Parts which needed high compression strength tended to rely on spruce.

some of the grain i can see looks like ash, but really need to see it close up natural to really determine

I agree with AU, it looks very much like Ash to me. I'd presume it would be Ash, as although a moderately expensive wood, isn't that horrendously pricey. Not enough to warrant substituting with cheap alternatives at any rate.

PS another attribute of Ash is that it takes a curve exceptionally well when steamed. The wheel arches are however not steamed, but cut from boards. Mind you if one were to steam them in one piece, they would be immensely strong, and throw off water penetration problems like... well... water off a duck's back!

on that pic i would say it is a good chance it is ash.

Either an american tool for putting strat marks into fender (bumper)

, or a very nice guitar brand

I am partial to Hoffman guitars myself - I even have on that is older than my moggie (I think)

In my old trade, I used mostly maple & spruce (violin making), but a lot of chisel handles were made from Ash.
