hi all well i have been givern a 1275 engine
nice for the traveller
right i have a problem i have a 1098 flywheel that will not fit the rear of the 1275 due to the 1098 having 4 bolt holes and the 1275 having 5 with 2 locating holes
now can i take off teh bit were the flywheel bolts on or is it part of teh crank yes i can get a 1275 flywheel but i have 2 brand new ones in the garage so there for i want to use them insted of paying out again for a nuther flywheel

You can't remove it, it's part of the crank. I found recently that one of mine was running with (I think) a 1098 flywheel, just using the 4 bolts. Not certain of that, and I wouldn't recommend it - but it certainly only used 4...

But only two of the 4 bolt holes in a 1098 crank will line up with the 1275 crank holes - and two is NOT enough. You can either drill the flywheel, or get a 1275 one. Why did BMC/Rover have to do this to us!!

Chris,

Most places will exchange your flywheel for a 1275 one mate :) It's not that expensive (if I remember correctly)...

You could drill yourself if you've got enough accurate equipment to do so I'm guessing...

Presumably, then, the flywheel had been drilled - I didn't look specially closely.
Oh, sorry - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

16 - Note that the MG Turbo did NOT use the MG Metro cam. It used a standard cam. You don't want a long duration cam with a turbo!
