The page is too wide!

Often the text is too wide for my screen so I have to keep scrolling left and right to read it all. (Please resist bigger monitor jokes.) Especially a pain if I want to know who wrote what.
Is it me? Can I do anything about it?
I find that using the Printer Version is a lot better and easier, indeed now its my prefered option with long threads, but it needs a lot of button pushing to get in and out of all the articles. Any ideas? Regards, MikeN.

does this happen a lot?
Normally this problem only happens when someone shows a wide picture - then the page size enlarges to fit the picture and it gets too wide for most people's screens

Could you tell us what browser you are using and the resolution that your monitor is running at?

To do this, right-click the desktop and select Properties, then go to Settings and on a slider bar, your screen resolution should be listed.

I don't have any problem with the page size, but then my laptop screen is 1680x1050.

Thanks Gareth!
Of course I had to ask the ball & chain wot desktop meant (for those, SR, afraid to ask its the front page with all the icons on) but eventually I found out that my screen was at 800x600. Pushed along the slider to give the max of 1280x1024 and now all fits. Still not sure why some threads fitted and others didn't. Not dependent on pictures.
All the scribble's a bit small now though. I'll just have to fiddle again or get a bit closer.
(Spose that's the root of Bigginger jokette. They must be a Bristol thing.)

Thanks, everyone, MikeN.

:D Indeed - but a Bristol thing? I think it's just a big, ginger thing...

- if in IE, goto VIEW / TEXT SIZE / LARGEST along the top viewing bar of the webpage.

That's quite chunky for anything over a 15" monitor! I use 1024x768 on this 17", and seldom get the scrolling problem unless someone's posted a huge picture. 1280 may well appear a little small, especially after running 800, maybe try 1024 or 1152 and see if that works better for you :)

I have to say I have a huge 21" monitor and I'm running a resolution of 1600 x 1200 so even the largest pic seem quite small to me. If your using Windows XP and Internet Explorer try using the keyboard shortcut CTRL + U and select the magnifier, it follows your mouse and makes it 3x the normal size in a bar at the top of the screen... I use it for very small fonts quite often

I've got a 21" screen... In the cupboard, as it was simply too big for me, gave me headaches! I do miss my old 19", but I don't miss the heat it gave off in this tiny room.
If your using Windows XP and Internet Explorer try
